Writer, professor, community engagement leader
In 2025-2026 I am launching my Collins Story Exchange, a business that involves researching and writing individual’s stories as part of a legacy publication for their families or their businesses. It will be more sophisticated than StoryCorps and clients will walk away with copies of a print publication their families can keep for generations. I expect to open my doors for business in January 2026 at a studio at the Farmington Valley Arts Center (FVAC) in Farmington, CT. I’ll also offer writing workshops year-round through FVAC as well as my Book Doctor skills for authors working on book proposals. This summer I’ll head to the Hudson River Valley Writers’ Retreat to work on my speculative fiction, which centers on the lives of my ancestors from the logging camps of Maine. Instead of a standard novel, I am having an imagined conversation with them as I dig into how we arrived at the Red/Blue divide in white America, including in my own extended family.
