Professor and Writing Workshop Leader
I am a full professor (nonfiction) and Program Coordinator for the Writing Minors at Central Connecticut State University, which includes Creative Writing and Writing & Publishing. https://www.ccsu.edu/english/writingMinor/
In the summers I teach a nonfiction workshop for the Yale Summer Writing Program which draws adult students from around the world. https://summer.yale.edu/courses-programs/yale-writers-workshop
Prior to my position at CCSU, I taught for 12 years part-time at Johns Hopkins University’s MA in Writing program. I won the teaching award in that program and at CCSU.
I plan to leave my full-time position as a Full Professor of Creative Writing at CCSU in May 2026 and will instead work out of a studio at the Farmington Valley Art Center (FVAC). I will offer writing workshops, run a Story Exchange business that produces high-quality personal histories as legacy projects for families and businesses, and work as a Book Doctor for writers working on book proposals. Some possible workshop topics include an interactive “Come to Your Senses” program for both fiction and nonfiction writers; humor; Publishing 101; the Art of the Personal Essay; the Art of Revision; Mixing Media, Mixing Genres; Zines; and various nonfiction-themed programs.
